in Japan to funeral and burial/cremation services in the Philippines.
Together with our trusted funeral home partners, we provide compassionate, end-to-end support so your loved
one can return home with dignity and utmost care
Our specialist staff carefully prepare your loved one with hygiene and dignity in mind, so they can return home safely even after a long international journey.
JEC takes full responsibility for complex embassy procedures and the preparation and filing of required documents, minimizing the burden on your family.
From airline coordination and cargo space arrangements to export procedures in Japan and customs clearance on arrival in the Philippines, JEC and our local partners handle every step so your loved one arrives home safely.
In cooperation with local partner funeral homes, we support viewings, funeral ceremonies, and burial that respect Philippine religious and cultural customs, so your family can say a peaceful farewell.
JEC provides one-stop support from transportation and embalming in Japan to document preparation, procedures, arrival support in the Philippines, and funeral and burial arrangements according to local customs.
We begin by hearing about your situation and confirming your wishes as well as any religious or regional customs. We clearly explain the required procedures and carefully answer any questions or concerns you may have.
We come to collect your loved one from the place of passing, anywhere in Japan. We perform embalming suited to long-distance international repatriation, carefully preparing your loved one with attention to hygiene and dignity so your family can view them with peace of mind back home.
When a foreign national passes away, special procedures at the local municipal office are required. JEC carefully supports you through each step, so you can leave the process to us with confidence.
We prepare the documents required for departure and arrange translation of the death certificate and other documents. After obtaining an apostille from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we obtain the Report of Death (ROD) at the Philippine Embassy or Consulate.
We arrange the flight with the airline. Your loved one is placed in a casket with IATA-compliant packaging.
The remains are transported to the international airport.
Upon arrival at the Philippine port of entry, the Bureau of Quarantine (BOQ) must issue a BOQ Clearance to protect public health before the remains can be released. Your nominated funeral home coordinates with the airline cargo agent to present all arriving documents: the Consular Mortuary Certificate issued in Japan, the death certificate, the embalming certificate, and the airway bill. The receiving funeral home handles customs clearance and assists with all final arrangements at the airport.
The foundational document is the Certificate of Death. Without a valid death certificate, later steps such as burial permit issuance, cremation, shipping, and interment cannot proceed lawfully. The foreign-issued death certificate must be registered with the Local Civil Registrar (LCR) in the Philippines. If the family wishes to secure a PSA-issued death certificate, they must present the LGU-issued death certificate at any PSA satellite office.
Because the system is decentralized, local requirements matter heavily. If the deceased's hometown is in a different region from the arrival airport — for example, if the body arrives in Manila but the family is in Cebu or Mindanao — a Transfer Permit must be secured from the Local Health Office before the remains can be transported overland or by domestic flight.
If the hometown is far from the major airports, the remains must be transported by funeral hearse (land or sea RORO) or domestic air cargo to the final destination. Families dealing with inter-provincial transfers may need to satisfy both originating and receiving locality requirements. Your team coordinates all logistics and ensures all transit permits are in order before departure.
Upon opening the casket for inspection, the condition of the remains is assessed. If the embalming performed in Japan has deteriorated due to long transit, delays, or temperature changes, re-embalming is performed at the local funeral home to restore and preserve the remains for the viewing period. This is especially important if the family intends a multi-day wake.
The international shipping casket — typically a sealed zinc-lined or metal air tray — is not always suitable for open-casket viewing. The remains are transferred into a proper Philippine viewing casket chosen by the family, which may be wood, metal, or a premium style appropriate for their customs, tradition, and budget.
It is common practice in the Philippines to view the remains of loved ones before their burial or cremation. This can be held at a funeral home, a chapel, or at a personal residence, and may last from one to several days. The funeral home provides the full viewing setup: floral arrangements, lighting, chapel (if selected), and prayer or mass coordination as requested by the family.
A burial permit is required by law before interment can take place. This permit is obtained from the Local Health Office or Municipal Health Officer of the city or municipality where burial or cremation will occur. For cremation, a separate Cremation Permit is required in addition to the burial permit.
On the day of burial, the funeral hearse transports the remains from the chapel or residence to the cemetery or memorial park. The funeral home coordinates the graveside or entombment ceremony, including grave preparation and all interment logistics.

What should I do first?
Please contact JEC first. After hearing about your current situation, we will guide you through everything needed, from arrangements in Japan to funeral and burial in the Philippines. Even if this has happened suddenly and you are not sure where to start, you can consult us with peace of mind.
Does international repatriation include embalming?
Yes, it does. Embalming is necessary for international repatriation to keep your loved one in a hygienic, peaceful condition for the long journey. At JEC, we carry out the necessary care with great attention, so your family can say a peaceful farewell after the journey.
Can I travel on the same flight as the deceased?
Yes, it is possible. Depending on your request, you may be able to travel on the same flight as your loved one. Since detailed conditions and procedures vary by airline and flight availability, JEC will provide guidance in advance.
Can you support the funeral and burial after arrival in the Philippines?
Yes, we can. JEC works with our partner funeral homes in the Philippines to carefully coordinate everything from receiving your loved one on arrival to the viewing, funeral ceremony, and burial. You can consult us with confidence for the entire journey, from Japan to the Philippines.
Can JEC also handle embassy and airline procedures?
Yes, we can. JEC takes care of the embassy procedures, document preparation, and airline arrangements required for international repatriation. Since your family does not need to handle each of these separately, we can help keep the burden to a minimum.
I'd like to know roughly what it will cost — can I ask in advance?
Yes, you are welcome to ask in advance. Because the required support varies by situation, we provide cost estimates individually. With JEC, you can consult us for both the Japan and Philippines sides together, which helps reduce the time and cost burden compared to arranging separate providers on your own.
For urgent matters or consultations,
please contact us by phone or through the inquiry form.
