The author graduated in 2004 from the Funeral Services Education Program in the faculty of Health Science at Humber College in Ontario, Canada. In October of the same year, she became the first embalmer in Japan to be certified by IFSA (International Funeral Science Association in Japan) with certification number EM001.

With more than 20 years of hand-on experience in embalming procedures, she has also handled numerous international repatriation cases, including returning foreign nationals who have died in Japan to their home countries and bringing Japanese nationals who have died overseas back to Japan. Working closely with embassies and consulates, police, medical institutions, airlines, and overseas funeral service providers, responsibilities span the full repatriation process—from reviewing and preparing the required documentation to embalming, air transport, and coordinating arrangements at the destination.

Currently she serves on an IFSA committee, contributing to discussions on professional standards and technical affairs, and serves as an expert member of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare’s training initiative for certified embalmers.
